The Headless Release
Debut Single “Another Cloth”

The Flint band’s first of three summer releases is out now.

The Headless have released their debut single “Another Cloth,” out now on Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp. The heavy space rock and alt-metal band from Flint, Michigan built the song as the first of three independent releases arriving this summer and fall. For fans of Failure, Baroness, Faith No More, and Superheaven.

The band came together last year out of a reunion that never happened. An attempt to bring back Diver, former Flint mainstays, stalled when the group couldn’t find a singer, so Andy Lenox, Diver’s former guitarist, stepped up to the microphone and The Headless formed around that lineup. Lenox wrote the music for “Another Cloth” and co-wrote the lyrics with Justin Ford, the singer and songwriter of Kinetic Stereokids, another long-running Flint band.

“Another Cloth” is sung from the perspective of a recurring character in the lore the band is building across its catalog, a man born into wealth and above reproach who is plagued by nightmares of a world where he no longer holds power over others. The lyrics move between his contempt for the people beneath him and his fear of losing them, and the arrangement carries that same tension.

The Headless are recording the singles and a forthcoming album with Marc Hudson at Rancho Recordo, in the forests of Michigan, where Hudson handles mixing, mastering, and production alongside the band.

The band is booking shows across Michigan, with confirmed dates at Flint Local 432 on September 12 and the Ann Arbor Funhouse on November 28.

Lyrics another cloth

While you’re barely surviving
With unattainable dreams
And you call it a living
it will never compare to me.

Because we are the supermen, cut from another cloth.
We stand above the fold breaking your wretched heart

Alone we’ve lifted up this world
Everything we have we deserve
There’s nothing.
Without us.
You’re the takers
We’re providers
Stuck to my vein just like a leech
I don’t always practice what I preach

We are the supermen, cut from another cloth.
We stand above the fold and trample your wretched heart
What pretty velvet covered gloves, lined with iron filled with blood.
It feels so cold up here, up above you all.
Lay your gaze upon me child, baby cause this is love.

I had a horrible dream
You took back every single thing
And shared it with every one.
Fed, Clothed and Sheltered
What progress is there without suffering?
A world where everyone has everything they need.

It was never enough
We’ve had enough

I’m Restless and sweating awake from a nightmare I can’t ignore.
